Makawehi Lithified Cliffs on Kauai’s South Shore

The Makawehi Lithified Cliffs on Kauai’s South Shore are very interesting to observe.  They are great to observe as the sun is about 60-90 minutes from setting.  Note that means you need to be at the end of the 1.5 hike at 60-90 minutes before the sun sets.

The trail to experience the cliffs begins at Shipwreck Beach in Poipu.  The trail heads east for 1.5 miles (one way).  The trail is either nicely compacted sand or the Lithified material.  The trail is easy to follow and gentle – with plenty of room for shade.
