Winning In Every Manner – Good Luck To You, Leo Grande

Good Luck To You Leo Grande is a film where risks (from a Hollywood filmmaking perspective) are taken in a material fashion.  The result is a winning film for its viewers.

The subject explored and revealed, while not controversial is one we like to avoid discussing or addressing in the first person. It is more common than anyone of us would like to admit.  The film tackles the subject with a refreshing level of frankness.

The films’ leads, Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormick, have an on screen connection and charm that is undeniable.  The dialogue from the Screenplay by Katy Brand and Direction for Sophie Hyde is also key.  Without all of these aspects operating effectively, Good Luck To You Leo Grande would not ring true.

Good Luck To You Leo Grande is a film that rings true.

Emma Thompson is a remarkable actress. To-date she is credited with 95 appearances. She has won 2 Academy Wards. One as Best Writer (Sense and Sensibility in 1995) and Best Actress in a Leading Role (Howards End in 1992).  However, I think Thompson’s best work on screen is as Karen Eiffel in Stanger Than Fiction and as Kate Walker in Last Chance Harvey.

How Well Will You Deal With What is Before You? – Ove

A Man Called Ove is a film that is astonishing on almost every aspect imaginable.

The film will likely emote every emotion (out of its viewers) possible.  Because of its sincerity and heart warming nature, A man Called Ove must be endured through the “tough” and “disagreeable” times presented.  All scenes (will upon reflection) make sense and offer a storyline that is as complete and true that any film can offer.

A Man Called Ove was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Foreign Film and Makeup and Styling in 2017.

Let’s See… Moonlight won Best Film.  Really?  Moonlight was more than okay.  However, I have not watched it again.  I would rate it – Three Stars out of Four.  AA Nominees, Manchester By The Sea, Hidden Figures, and Hell or High Water are far superior.  I have watched all at least 5 times since viewing in a theater.  Hacksaw Ridge and LaLa Land, Arrival and Fences were better by long run as well.

All About Fate & Romance – Rye Lane

Rye Lane is all about fate and romance as we would want it to be. Rye Lane is a superb film.

While it is a 21st Century Romantic Comedy, Rye Lane will suit old and young.

The script by Nathon Bryon and Tom Melia allows the lead characters to be quirky and enjoyable.  These actors (David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah) are new to being leads in film.  However, their connection and affectation are memorable and endearing.

While watching the film, take some notice of the Direction (Raine Allen-Miller), Cinematography (by Olan Collardy) Sets (by Jessmay Hadfield) and Costumes (by Cynthia Lawrence-John).  All are noteworthy. In short, each aspect is terrific.

What I liked most about the film?  It is of a London that feels real, and like nothing from a standard Hollywood product.
